Visiting the Mark Twain house today, I was reminded of the times my mother would read to us. Sitting on the floor in the hall, she would read loud enough that all of us could listen from our separate rooms as we fell asleep.
Listening to stories of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, it was easy to imagine myself on some grand adventure. The difficulty of the adventure never mattered – I’d imagine myself overcoming some great trial and accomplishing some great good.
Of course, in the real world, difficulty has mattered. Trials have been much harder to overcome and good can be, at times, hard to accomplish. Yet, life continues to be such a wonderful adventure!
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
