My research explores the impact of new technologies on communication during face-to-face encounters.

Technology provides a unique ability to communicate across distances, yet evidence suggests that improper phone usage inhibits communication during face-to-face encounters. Although communication through one’s cell phone enables relational development, communication with one’s cell phone leads to decreases in conversation satisfaction.
